Description
The fencers in this photo (identified by their knickers) are members of the 1928 German Sabre Team. From left to right, Heinrich Moos, Erwin Casmir, Hans Thomson and Hans Halberstadt. Though not on the sabre team, Wilhelm Löffler might be the individual on the far right.
Hans Thomson had an identical twin brother, Julius Thomson, who was a foil fencer. Hans Thomson fenced both sabre and epee. Both were on the 1912 and 1928 German teams in their respective weapons. Hans and Julius were club mates with Hans Halberstadt at Fechtclub Offenbach and trained by the same fencing master, Arturo Gazzera, who also coached Helene Mayer. The Thomson brothers were instrumental in helping re-start fencing at Fechtclub Offenbach around 1949.
Stamps on the back of the photo address payment for media reproduction and use of the photograph in different countries.
